Welcome to Howard's new Australia where people can be sacked on a whim and given no redundancy payouts. People have already been sacked with no explanation a mere 2 days after the new IR laws come in. Welcome to a world where the working poor have no rights and no recourse to justice. Let's hope that those in the 'burbs are also effected so they can turn their wrath on this lame excuse for a government and boot them out at the next election.

[rant]Well if that was the case then there would be no need to change the laws since you could already sack someone who was not performing. Sure a company would have to go through procedures but that seems fair enough considering a person is about to lose their job. Now, if you have no bargaining power (i.e. are unskilled) you are fucked. It doesnt effect people like me and you - these laws never do. Its the working poor who are fucked over yet again.[/rant]

Seriously, less than a dozen people so far have been sacked. That's from all the businesses across Australia with incompetent staff.

How many people lose their jobs each day simply in the course of ordinary affairs? No matter what, the 27th of March was always going to have people losing their jobs - just like every other day of the year. And unless you like the look of socialism, there's not too much that can be done about it.

There doesnt have to be a simple choice between capitalism and socialism. All I am talking about are rights for workers, these can exist in a capitalist society....
